Cape Town has a myriad of beaches to visit, including many with Blue Flag status. If you’re in the Western Cape looking for a quieter spot in the sand, we have you sorted. The best part? While these beaches offer seclusion, they’re all in close proximity to all of the bucket-list destinations when visiting the region.
Platboom
This is known as the most unspoilt beach inside the Cape Point Nature Reserve. Once you have paid for your entry into the park, lookout for wildlife as you make your way to the shore. When you reach the beach, expect to see some animals as they wonder in the nature nearby, making this a unique beach experience.
You can kite- and windsurf here, or simply laze on the white sands. Low tide is a good time to get into the rock pools there, though done at your own risk, and birdlife is plentiful.

Diaz Beach
For another option inside the Cape Point Nature Reserve, visit this secluded beach, accessed by a 20-minute walk down steep wooden stairs. There are towering cliffs in the background of this beautiful coastline, which is at the tip of Cape Point and viewable from the Cape Point Lighthouse.
This is a great spot for surfers who enjoy the hollow barrels, though there are strong currents to look out for (hence swimming is not advised). This is one of the Cape’s most remote beaches and reaching it is no easy feat, though this only makes the experience that much more worth it.

Water’s Edge
In Simon’s Town, between Seaforth and Boulder’s Beach, is Water’s Edge Beach. It is a favourite among locals, accessed through a gate found at the end of a pathway. This beach is off the beaten track and one often left undiscovered by tourists.
There are trees nearby for shade, boulders to relax upon and rock pools which are especially popular with kids. This beach is sometimes visited by penguins and allows for diving, swimming and snorkelling. This area is protected and has views of mountain ranges and False Bay. Expect warmer waters and little friends in the form of starfish when visiting.

Sunset Beach
Sunset Beach in Blaauwberg is located just opposite the city of Cape Town, meaning you’ll be in full frontal view of Table Mountain, Lion’s Head and Robben Island from across the ocean. The beach is one of the world’s best for windsurfing, though visitors can also swim, sunbathe, picnic and bodyboard.
It is a little less busy than the main shores in Blouberg, and is known to be a perfect spot for sunset views and walks along the sand. Secret pleasures include picnicking, sunbathing, swimming and bodyboarding.

Dalebrook
Dalebrook is a tidal pool in Kalk Bay. It is maintained by the city council and boasts the natural effect of waves crashing over the boundary walls every so often. It is a clean and secluded swimming area. The warmer waters make this a prime swimming spot and one which offers free entry to visitors.

Windmill Beach
Another secret spot near Boulder’s is Windmill Beach. It is situated behind the golf course in Simon’s Town and is surrounded by boulders. This is the perfect beach for a sheltered swim, with shallow waters. Expect to see marine life during your visit and if you have dogs, they are welcome to join. This beach is also popular with newbie divers who seek the protection of the cove.
